Description
While visiting Roche Harbor on San Juan Island in Washington State, I was fascinated by a red skiff called 'Lil Hustler that listed Pearl Island as its location. At first, I thought its home location might be the tropical Pearl Islands off of Panama, but I've discovered that Peal Island is one of 172 islands in the San Juan archipelago. Named during the Wilkes Expedition in 1841, it lies off the western shore of San Juan Island, near Henry Island. It has very few residents, though, as some islands are large and have regular ferry service and some simply have a light to keep boats from crashing into them.
Roche Harbor is an interesting place as well. It's a sheltered harbor on the northwest side of San Juan Island in San Juan County. with a huge resort located there. Roche Harbor faces Haro Strait and the Canada–United States border so it also has U.S. Customs offices as well. This is an original photo of this classic-looking boat with a sepia-style, textured-looking (almost pebbly) treatment that almost looks coffee or ink-stained. Some home decor items are trimmed with chocolate brown so that the boat fully fits into the frame.
