Description
On Driftwood Beach in Jekyll Island, Georgia, there are some amazing trees and remnants of trees turning into driftwood as ocean overtakes land. As the tides change, various trees have fallen or are uprooted. This tree is almost overtaken by the the surf, as coastlines rise and beaches slowly disappear, yet it remains upright.
The red and blue object, which you can see underneath the branches on the left, is an overturned cargo ship. It was stranded in the sound for several months (including November 2019, when this photo was taken). If you'd like a version of the photo without the tanker, I can edit it out but some people might appreciate the story behind the tanker. As it started to tilt and sway, the Port of Brunswick staff was able to guide it out into the channel where it would not destroy the port.
