Description
Oh, my that's a big gaggle of noisy snow geese. The Mount Vernon, Conway, and La Conner area of Washing State gets an amazing number of snow geese each year, much to the chagrin of farmers. They raze the fields, leaving very little. Meanwhile, photographers (like me) and gawkers come to watch the amazing flocks when they take to the air. The sounds and sights are amazing, including the beats of the wings and the honking. This area is also visiting by many migratory ducks and swans. I took this image in the late afteroon, so there's a bit of a golden glow on some of the geese as they take flight.

Thanks so much, Jeff! The sight and sounds are amazing - hard to remember to take photographs and focus 'cause it's so overwhelming. The farmers aren't so happy aboout them, though. I think they migrate elsewhere in several weeks, and it's hard to spot many after that, but I'm not sure of the timing.

I also have had the luck to see the geese flying in Washington state, enroute the flower exhibits somewhere in its interior! It IS a sight to see, and your gaggle of Snow Geese was huge compared to my gaggle!! Thanks for the noisy memories!!

Thanks, Tony! Yes, they are so amazing to watch, and there are some wildlife preserves nearby to observe other waterfowl, like harriers, swans, and blue herons. Glad you got to see the geese in WA!
