Description
I love to watch wood ducks, as they swim and interact in the marsh and along the shores of my local lake. While the wood duck drakes have such distinctly colored plumage, set off by white stripes, then hens have more subty toned plumage in gorgeous gray, brown, green, and blue tones. Their call is much more plaintive and forlorn than the mallard, with the quack that almost sounds like a laugh. They often get competitive with each while finding a mate, and then perform an interesting swim dance once they find him.
