Description
This amazing building was once a mercantile store and ship chandlery. The Adam-Strain Building and nearby tabby ruins are a fascinating remnant of Darien, Georgia's past as a shipping and cotton port. The original building was erected in 1813, burned down by the Union Army during the Civil War, and then rebuilt in 1863. Its future is in question.
This interesting tiny town has a great wine store, a few great restaurants and stores, various boats in the harbor, and a generous offering of mosquitoes. Not far from the Georgia's famous sea islands, like Jekyll Island and Saint Simons, this interesting town is worth a side trip.
